Kosher Supervision in the Liquor Industry

Whisky, wine and spirits raise questions that do not come up anywhere else in the field: casks, sherry finishes, flavourings, and what happens between the distillery and the bottle.

A mashgiach inspects a copper pot still on the floor of a working craft distillery.

Who Teaches It

Rabbi Akiva Niehaus of the cRc teaches it. It is written for mashgichim, buyers, and anyone working behind a bar in a supervised establishment.

Rabbi Akiva Niehaus is Director of Kashrus Operations and rabbinic coordinator for the liquor industry at the cRc, a certified saké sommelier, and the author of a work of Jewish law on sherry casks.
